a little bit goes a long way

There were no hug, no embrace not even a handshake.

Olivia just listened. It was as if Penelope was passing off Sophie to her. It was as if she'd washed her hands of this mess, and she didn't really care what happened to their mother. Olivia listened. But she could tell Sophie had not raised her, either. She was stern and maybe even a bitch. Yes, that's what she was and Olivia didn't know how to fight back, exactly.

Naturally, she was upset after Penelope gave her her a five minute spill how she'd always had to put up with Sophie's nonsense. Then she left.

Olivia set there on the couch wondering what the next move would be. But a heavy emotion took over, and she was weeping before she knew it.

"She's the most uncaring person in the world." Olivia blubbered while Ravi took her in and gave her a hug.

"It'll be OK." He hugged her tight.

"How?" Her mother was actually happy with Steve. And he'd changed too. It was amazing.

"It'll take some doing. Steve just needs his own place." Ravi told her.

"But he needs her just as much as she needs him. They look out for each other." Olivia was certain.

"I'll look into it. Maybe your sister doesn't like the idea of them together. It might have nothing to do, like she says. All right." Ravi's voice was a comfort.

Olivia sighed then. She wished it would have been different. She had imagined meeting Penelope at some warm place. They'd have tea and Penelope would smile, talking about when she was with their mother when she was a little girl and how sweet it was. But evidently, it had never been sweet for her sister. Never.

  1. Sometimes, these things don't get off to a good start, but you just keep trying.

  4. Alrighty then, well that cleared things up. I just hope Penelope and Olivia find some sort of common ground, they are sisters after all. Steve seems that he will be able to find a place. they did only give him the boot because he made too much

This was my favorite part. It's almost heartbreaking.
