never too late

"He doesn't remember a thing." Amanda was trying to keep it all in about Elliot and his accident during the storm, but Syd was afraid she might crash. She thought it best she stay by her side at the hospital. Even for a little bit. It was just the two of them.

"But he's OK." Syd gave her a hug.

"Yeah, pretty much." Amanda looked so small as if their was just too much weight to carry. Syd kept her arm around her. "The..things..he..said." Amanda's voice cracked when she was remembering how Elliot was before he took off in the car the day after Christmas.

"Why didn't you tell us sooner, what was happening?" Syd had to asked.

"I dunno." Amanda blinked tears. "I just thought it would work its self out." She caught her breath then. "Its...its like I married my father." Syd couldn't be sure if Amanda was laughing or crying.

"Have you talked to Elliot?" Syd held her hand.

Amanda shook her head, no. "I've been there. In the room. But, but we don't talk."

Syd closed her eyes then, feeling so sad for Amanda.

"Well, if ..if worst comes to worst. Why don't you come stay with us?" Syd thought it was the right thing to say.

Amanda just looked at her. But she didn't say anything. It was like she didn't hear her at all.
