What was Olivia suppose to say to her sister, half-sister. Did she know about their mother? Should she even ask?
Penelope reminded her. "I think we should get to know each other."
Well, she didn't say it would be easy, and Olivia didn't think it could happen.
As she could see at the police station, her sister only stuck with the guys. And of course, they laughed when Olivia showed up. She didn't exactly introduce her but told them all to leave her little sister alone. Of course, even when Penelope said nothing to Olivia. They just walked out of the building in silence.
"OK, lets do this." Penelope sounded as if they might get in a police car and make the rounds. It made Olivia all the more timid, but they went to an upscale restaurant that Olivia had only seen the outside of.
"I suppose, you know... what's his face." She wouldn't dare give Olivia's real father a name.
"We talk." Olivia nodded, she didn't tell her sister it was once a week. "He said he'd try to talk Mom into moving out where he lives."
"You think he still loves her?" Penelope gave her a serious look but then she gave a serious look to the menu too. Naturally, she ordered a steak and fries. Olivia ordered the cobb salad.
"I dunno." Olivia wished this wasn't all about their mother, or she might dwell on that fact her father had told her about what their mother had did. This was just lunch. She wanted to know what Penelope did in her free time. Did she have a boyfriend? Maybe she had kids. Olivia seriously doubted that, but maybe she at least had a dog.
"God, if we could just get her away from that loser." Penelope festered.
"Well, it could be worse." Olivia had to think positive. She'd never seen Steve so protective of anyone.
Penelope scarfed her Pepsi and asked for another. Olivia could tell she was the testy sort. Questioning the waitress. She was suspicious of everyone. Olivia felt all the more uncomfortable around her. She had doubts she'd ever actually go to Penelope's place. She was afraid to ask Penelope where she lived.
It'll take a lot more than one lunch to get to know her.
ReplyDeletePenelope is kind of a sketchy character; maybe spending a bit more time with her will make her seem less...strange. :/
ReplyDeleteOh, I think it'll be good for them to know each other.
ReplyDeleteAh, half-sibling relationships. I know all about that. They're almost harder than they should be.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments . . . I didn't really give a lot of thought to Lissy's hat. I just thought, "Hey, it's cold, she should probably be wearing a hat" and gave her one. But, push comes to shove, I'd say she'd probably wear a big versatile slouchy hat.
That's awesome. I love crocheted things. Unfortunately, I've never been able to master crocheting myself.
I know how that works. I like your new layout.
ReplyDeleteAt least its a start.
ReplyDeleteThey both need to work on this.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they will work through it by talking more...getting used to eachother!
ReplyDeleteIt'll take some time. Some how..some way.
ReplyDeleteI'd be suspicious too. I don't blame her for being cautious.
ReplyDeleteThey need more time to really get to know each other.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see it unfold.
ReplyDeleteI think that suspension can be a curse and a precaution
