if only he knew
Sam was all smiles. It was interesting, seeing Amanda..after all this time. He'd never really met her. Even more interesting, that Elliot had ended up with her and then not.
She was just a little girl. Still. He wouldn't say what he thought. To Elliot. After all, Sam liked older women. He'd been with Gillian for over a year. Of course, everyone at home thought he was with Jennifer, the cheerleader from college. But he wasn't very successful with relationships. Obviously.
Kyle had asked about Jennifer. He told her she was in law school. That wasn't a lie. She was moving on with her life. He was stuck. It was true, he was not the smartest tool in the shed. He was just a dumb jock. It was time to admit that, but he couldn't. He just couldn't.
He watched Kyle with Amber. Kyle always had it in him, to be resourceful. Sam envied him so much. Maybe that's why he could never be around him when everything happened with Kyle and Amanda.
And now Sam was making Amber nervous. He didn't mean too. Didn't want too. He was trying to be a nice guy. He needed to be the brother he hadn't been to Kyle. There was a lot to make up, but he couldn't even say the right things to Amber.
"I wish I'd brought Rosie for my date." He then grinned as if Rosie would have kept the party going. She was just adorable. She made him want to be an uncle.
"You know she has a baby brother, don't you?" Kyle said.
"What, you an Amber have a baby?" Sam's eyes opened wide. What other secrets was Kyle keeping?
"Oh, no." Kyle squeezed Amber's hand. "You remember that guy Ellie used to date?"
"Elliot?" This was like a game of twenty questions to him. He thought of Ellie as part of their family, but not really. Just some girl they had holidays with. Not a step-sister.
"Before him." Kyle said.
"I dunno." And he didn't. They were never in his world.
"Eric." Kyle said. "Amanda has a son with him."
"Seriously?" Sam was thinking he better attack that medium rare steak before it got cold. He was thinking he better give Elliot a call when he got home. He was not gonna forget about him.
