just one thing

"Is everything, all right?" Elliot caught Amanda coming out of Derrick's room. He was in the kitchen getting a glass of milk. It was funny, they'd had all this time to talk, but they really hadn't. Not yet. Not tonight. It was getting late. Going on past eleven.

"Oh, you know," she said with a shrug. "Derrick and Ian."

"They break up?" It was weird finding out they were together, but he hadn't let it bother him. It was none of his business.

"Far from it." She sighed.

"Oh." Well, he didn't really need to know the details. "And you handled it?"

"I guess." She shrugged again.

"You don't think? Ian wouldn't move in, would he?" He couldn't imagine anymore people in this house.

"God, I hope not." She made a grimace.

"I don't really need to talk to him. Do I?" Elliot shook his head.

"I'm sure, He's OK." Amanda told him. He drank his milk then.

"How are you?" Her words shocked him.

"Great." He put a little wink his eye, perhaps. Not that it meant anything. "And..and..how is the basement?"

"Very good." She nodded.

"You don't feel too far from Rosie?" He wondered.

"Not that far." She shook her head.

"Great." He bit his bottom lip and watched her, a bit longer. He started to take another sip of milk, but put it down on the counter as she passed by. Before he knew it, he reached for her. Their lips met automatically. She kissed him back. His eyes were getting misty. "Good night." He then said. She went to the basement. Not even a second look, but he looked. He couldn't help himself.
