It was true.
Olivia's mother just wasn't getting fat. Mother nature evidently had something else in mind. Olivia thought she might be sick when she heard the news. A part of her didn't want to tell Penelope what was up.
"Maybe we could, keep it from her...for awhile." Olivia bit her bottom lip. She was too tired to do anything, lately. She wanted to stay in bed as she laid there under the covers watching Ravi get dressed.
"Well, if it were you, who were pregnant, that would be a different story. But this is your mother, you know." Ravi sighed as he looked back at her while buckling his belt on his jeans.
"I know." She thought she might lose it as she looked at the ceiling. "Maybe you could tell her?"
"Its not your fault." Ravi smiled. He went to give her kiss on the cheek. "Now come on, get dressed. I'll warm up the quiche from last night. You have to go to work."
But she felt as if she were losing air. She hadn't really slept. She kept having nightmare after nightmare about her mother and the baby. Steve's baby.
Her mother had had a test early on. It had already been detected the baby had down syndrome. It broke Olivia's heart when she found out. It wasn't that it was a special needs baby so much that worried her..but who would take care of it? Who?
She knew it would be her. But she hadn't exactly explained this to Ravi yet. There were so many things to do. Perhaps the wedding should be moved up. They could be married in May. She'd be graduated from the University by then. It would work out. She had to believe it would.
Olivia pushed herself along. Washed up and got into her work clothes. She hurried downstairs, Ravi had breakfast waiting for her.
"What if we ..we got married this summer?" She asked before she could savor her creamed coffee.
"That isn't that far away." He looked puzzled. "I thought you wanted to work on your Masters, first?"
"That can wait?" She felt already over educated. As it was, she worked with deaf children. It was important to get the concepts of reading to them. This was what she was meant to do.
"Its something else? Isn't it?" His stare was calm.
She nodded. That's when she told him about wanting to adopt the baby.
