all could be lost
Of course, Heath, her brother had yelled at her for yelling at their Mom. He was such a drama king, but then again, he did teach drama in high school. Then he told her how he didn't trust Roger. And to look at what a bad influence he was. How could she have ever cheated on Kyle. And what about Doyle? Didn't she feel bad for him?
This had given her plenty of sleepless nights, but still she woke up in Roger's room, and they had their own space and..and..you just went on with things. The world wasn't stopping for anything. There were classes to get through. Things to do. She couldn't just be stuck in the past. This was her life. This was her time. Even if it wasn't quite like she'd conquered the kingdom with Roger, they had to be there for each other.
It was a new day. And she was finally smiling.
Well, she went to the bathroom. She looked out the bathroom window. It felt warm outside. She did what she did every morning. And then she flushed the commode. Something was wrong. The commode had a mind of its own.
The water rising. Rising. Amber's eyes widen. She cringed in disgust. The commode was over flowing. She didn't know what to do.
She almost said Kyle. It was on the tip of her tongue. He'd know what to do. But he wasn't here.
She fretted about as the water as he came down around her bare toes. She cringed more, thinking this was a great time to get a new disease in your very own bathroom. Amber shivered in disgust.
"What would Kyle do?" It was under her breath. This was what she'd needed him for. He could fix anything. She thought of him as Pa Ingalls (except a much younger version) out of the prairie who could diligently get anything done. Didn't matter what kind of intruder. He was her man. He was better than her father, who had always handled any sort of household emergency.
Well, Roger just looked at the mess.
"Take off the lid." He demanded as he went to get towels to clean up the mess.
She did as she was told. She immediately pushed the valve up. The water stopped. She held it.
He went to make a call. She waited. It felt like an eternity.
"Am I going to have to hold this thing, forever?" She gave him a dead stare.
"Maybe." Roger smirked.
She didn't want to fuss with him, but it seemed to be the general nature between them. Fuss. Then make up. Well, she really didn't feel like any making up was in order. She was stuck here.
"I called a plumber." He shrugged.
"Well, turn the water off or something!" She told him.
"How do I do that?" He was helpless.
"Get Ravi or someone!" She couldn't stand there with water seeping around her toes and holding the valve in place.
"I'll get Olivia." He was so nonchalant. "She'll know what to do."
Amber felt so horrible. She finally realized just what she'd gotten herself into.
