brother to brother

"What is it, you're exactly trying to do, Sam?" Kyle wasn't too keen on Sam going in on a trashed house to fix up.

"I just think Elliot needs something to do. Take his mind off..you know..who." Sam sighed as he was making a roast beef sandwich from the left overs in the fridge at their mother's.

"Elliot doesn't need an old house to fool around with." Kyle bit into a cucumber. "And another thing, I'm not helping. I'm not." He shook his head.

"What ever, I just thought-"

"What? This is looking out for Elliot? No one, said you had to be his best friend." Kyle winced.

"What's that suppose to mean?" Sam looked at him a bit angry.

"Sam, I know everything is not perfect, but if you had somebody in your life...you know, you'd drop him like a log." Kyle sliced roast beef.

"I would not." Sam squinted hard.

"Yeah, you would. I've seen it." Kyle told him as he smeared mustard on the hard roll and made his own sandwich at the kitchen counter.

"Well," Sam sighed. "I'm past that. I'm  not like that, anymore. Those days are over."

"I'm beginning to think you've changed teams." Kyle remarked. "But then again, I always did think you were...just a little bit gay." Kyle smashed his sandwich together and was on his way. There, he'd said it. Sam almost choked on his sandwich.

"That is not fair." Sam finally spoke, but Kyle was already in front of the TV watching Modern Family. "I have to look out for him. He needs a friend now. He really does."

"OK, look for something decent. All right. Not a money pit." Kyle told him. Sam was listening. Kyle supposed he'd have to help his brother find a place for them.
