the comfort of home

Roxie looked at the field of beds. This was kind of odd, being here with Kyle at the mega furniture mart store. It wasn't exactly a date, she guessed. But then again, it had been a very long time since she'd been on one, so she really wasn't sure. They were kid-free. Suddenly, she felt awkward.

"See, I, I have to figure out what to do with, Rosie." He told her the situation about the move with his brother and Amanda's ex. "What do you do?" She did after all live, in a one bedroom place.

"Jai has his room." She nodded. "I-I take the couch."

"Seriously?" He looked at her as if that was unheard of.

"Um, yeah." She shrugged. It wasn't that big of a deal. She thought how it was growing up. She'd slept with her sister and her Mom for quite a long time, before her mother got involved with someone that turned their lives upside down.  That was a happy time before her Mom had a bad boyfriend, she now thought, even if it were crowded when she was little. But when it came to Jai, she always wanted him to have his own room. She wanted to keep his world normal.

"Rosie, poor kid. I keep moving and she's so congenial." Kyle told her.

"You could always just have a little mattress under your bed when she visits. You could pull it out." Roxie told him. It would be on the floor, but very practical.

"I just don't like that. I mean, I want her to know, she's more than just a sleepover, kind of thing." Kyle shrugged.

"Then, get her one of those twin bed. Fill it with lots of pillows?" Roxie could see Rosie all happy with her little corner of the room.

"I thought about getting bunk beds." Kyle shrugged.

"Camp Kyle?" Roxie teased. "And what about your lady friends, hum?"

"There are none to worry about." He told her and Roxie wished she hadn't mentioned it. Awkwardness prevailed for a bit as they looked at all sorts of children's furniture.

"Get something simple. Something you can use for awhile." Roxie couldn't see Rosie being that fussy about it.

"I guess." He didn't look too happy though. "I might not be there, that long."

"But you found yourself a bed, already?" She wanted to know.

He shook his head, no. She guessed that's why they were here. She took his hand. "I just might fall asleep on you. I've never seen this many beds."

Roxie bounced down on the closest bed she found. Really, it was a beautiful bed. Any of them would do. She was afraid to get too comfortable. She would want one too.
