getting the ball rolling
"So now you want to help?" Ellie looked at Amanda who showed up at Roger's to get things ready for Kayla and Oliver's wedding shower. It was a bit unconventional. More of a party for presents for both of them. It was last minute, but Syd couldn't wait on Kayla's library crowd forever. Maybe Kayla would get two wedding showers out of the deal. It sounded as if they were going to have a potluck at work for her and give her mostly kitchen aids and that sort of thing.
As it was, Kayla and Oliver had a wishlist going at Target and Amazon.
"Can I?" Amanda looked puzzled.
"Well, of course, we'll let you figure out the games." Ellie smiled and saw Amanda's look on her face as if she had to be kidding her.
"You know, Olivia's taken care of that." She put her arm around Amanda. "So how are you?"
"Oh, you know." Amanda shrugged as if she could just take in the mess going on in the livingroom. Amber was there putting together a floral chandler. There were ribbons hanging everywhere. It looked as if the wedding could be in the livingroom. "Isn't this a bit much?"
"Yeah, it probably is." Ellie nodded, "But Amber wanted to." Ellie went on to tell Amanda that she wouldn't be here for the wedding. "We have to go to Texas. Hannah's mother is getting married."
"Will it be anything like this?" Amanda almost laughed.
"Well, they've had months to prepare, so I'm sure it'll be big." Ellie directed her toward the kitchen. The sheet cake was already waiting, framed in pink flowers.
"Kayla's OK, about the wedding shower here?" Amanda looked at the cake. It was huge. Syd had bought it. She was busy making punch.
"I don't think she's really worried about it." Ellie knew having presents was possibly the most important thing, and they had those on a table next to the bay window. "Lon's out back smoking a brisket. And there are beans in the crock pot. Guy food, you know. We'll have our little tea. They can have their fun, out back. It'll work out."
"So who's watching the kids?" Amanda told her she knew something was missing. No kids.
"Syd's Mom is here and Ian's helping out a little, but he'll be here for the food." Ellie thought it was all taken care of. Now all they really needed were Kayla and Oliver.
