just another day

"We should really think a wee bit more about this." Oliver was being reasonable with the old lady. He was beginning to think Estelle was a control freak. Yet, she'd been congenial enough to let him tamper with the menu. As it was, the place was packed most days for lunch now. Thank God, he didn't worry about dinner.

"Nonsense." Her pale eyes were down right ghostly. "I've set the date. Last one of the month at the historical church down the street."

"Lovely." Oliver played along, but what would Kayla think? Honestly? Well, she'd been pleased that someone wanted this wedding and had the money to offer. "She doesn't even have a gown." These kind of things took months. It couldn't be done in weeks. But as it was, Estelle had the cake planned. The minister too.

"Why, down at the bridal store, of course." She acted as if that were a done deal.

"I thought they did costumes, there." Oliver winced. He had work to do. Customers were waiting for scones, already.

"Only, during Halloween. They do tuxes you know, you will wear white, young man." Estelle managed to tell him while he was bringing the scones to the counter.

Oliver tried to smile, but he could see himself in the dog house, already with Kayla. He knew she didn't take directions lightly.
