letting go

Penelope wasn't sure meeting Olivia's Dad for lunch was the best idea, but then again, she'd cried herself to sleep ever since they'd talked at Olivia's dinner. She'd missed him more than she'd ever wanted to admit.

"I'm going to cry."  She told him first thing. Yet the warm tears that rimmed her eyes were a comfort too. Funny, how she'd been so upset about him being taken away from her when she was so little. She hadn't missed her Dad, at all. He was too busy for her. And she thought of his anger and how mean he'd been with his shouting matches with her mother. Denny, as she'd always called him, seemed to have this calming effect on the situation. Things were just better with him around. She guessed he was a nanny, after all.

She remembered the Dr. Seuss stories he'd read to her. And he always encouraged her to write, draw. She wanted to remember the good times they spent. Although, she'd been made to stop talking about him after he left. She wasn't suppose to remember a thing about him.

She knew how they'd tried to brain wash her into what a bad man he was. Penelope thought of the time when she told her aunt that he'd never hurt her, her aunt slapped her so hard. She soon stopped even asking about him.

"You don't need to do that." He told her now.

"I know." But she couldn't stop. He gave her his handkerchief. "But..I..I missed you."

"Yeah, but look at you. You're really turned out so..well, amazingly." He told her.

She shook her head, no. "No, its Olivia who's amazing." She thought.

"We just have a lot of catching up. That's all." Denny smiled. "You can tell me everything now."

Penelope choked on a laugh. Denny always was a good listener.
