justifable

"Are you insane!" Kyle made Sam jump when he told him the news. But Sam didn't blink.

"I had too." It felt like the right thing to do. He just couldn't leave Rachel in a home with dead bodies. It was a funeral home. And he was not pleased with the look that old geezer was giving Rachel, either. And there was the non-talking son, which Sam guessed he shouldn't have found so frightening, but the guy was practically a thirty-year old living there who hadn't spoken since he was three, according to Rachel.

He'd brought Rachel home with him. Of course, it wasn't an easy process. Something had to happen first. So he did it. They went all the way to Plattsmouth to do it. There was no waiting.

"How long do you think this will last, huh? A month, three weeks top. You can't be seriously married to her! You just can't!" Kyle broke the reality of it.

"You don't know me." Sam was ready to bust into Kyle while Rachel was freshening up in the bathroom.

"This..this is our man cave. You can't just bring her in here." Kyle tensed.

"You bring Rosie over here, all the time. And that Roxie, too." Sam snapped back. He knew she'd woken up here a time or two. "This is not like that." He looked around the livingroom. It was descent enough. What was his brother having a fit about?

"But your room, Sam. Your room is a disaster." Kyle almost spit on him.

"Oh." Sam winced. "Well..." He had been studying like a mad man, lately. He guessed it was a little messy. He'd just have to take care of that. He walked down the hall, thinking Rachel wouldn't mind, would she? She'd agreed to marry him. It would be OK. Of course, he could barely budge the door open.

It smelled of dead socks and papers were scattered all over the place along with piles of dirty clothes. How had he even managed a little corner of the bed to sleep on? Yes, he didn't know how to keep his own room. Never had. He winced hard and bit his bottom lip.

Just then, he heard the bathroom door open. Rachel stood their so innocently in the hall.

He shut his bedroom door behind him and looked at Rachel. "You know what we forgot to do?" He grinned as if there was a lot they'd forgotten to do. She was wearing a mood ring that he'd had in the glove compartment of his truck. And he didn't even know where that came from.

"What?" She stared at him blankly, still in the jeans and pale pink tank top she'd gotten married in.

"A honeymoon." He said with as much exuberant as he could.

"But..but we were going to wait. You said, we'd have a church wedding, come September. You have a test?" She winced.

"Yes, I do." He was animated about this. "You know I have to go to the University for the testing. What better way. We'll get a motel room. We'll make the most of it." How exciting could it be? He'd barely kissed her a few hours ago when they were at the justice of the peace.

Sam quickly put his arm around her, heading back toward the livingroom where Kyle and now Elliot were wondering what was happening too. Sam looked at both of them as if they better not say he was crazy or anything. He would call them the first chance he got. Someone was going to have to bulldoze that room before they got back.
