in a blank space

The shock just wouldn't wear off. Derrick couldn't shake it. He got his best friend pregnant. But was she really his best friend? He was starting to doubt it. Still, this was something totally unexpected.

He had to tell someone about Josie when he got home.

"I thought she was on the pill." Derrick said as if to no one, but Max was there in the kitchen making a peanut butter sandwich.

"And I thought you were gay." Max's words stung him. Derrick didn't have anything to say to that. Max said no more but bit into the fat sandwich, and drank a glass of milk at the kitchen counter.

Derrick rolled his eyes. Max would be no help. He wanted to be happy about this because it was not suppose to happen to him. But it did. Yet, there was someone's life here, and how..how was he suppose to make everything great for that person?

He pulled his dark curls back with his fingers, trying to think. He was only a Junior in high school. He grabbed his phone and looked for Kyle's number. If anyone knew what to do, he would.

"Hey." Derrick forced himself to smile. It had been forever since he'd spoken with Kyle. There was a time when Kyle was his best friend in the world, but then his sister, Amanda, left Kyle a long time ago.

Derrick asked him, if he was doing anything.

Of course, Kyle was with the kids. They were at the zoo. Kyle told him they'd be back at the house in twenty minutes. That was enough time for Derrick to get there.

  1. A heart to heart would definitely do him good right now. :)
