one more chance

"I really wish you'd talk to me." Ian said it first, but he heard Lola say it, too.

"Good, we're on the same page, right?" Ian briefly smiled wondering if this was going to be serious, or not.

"Yeah, I think so." Lola brought him scones from his brother's shop. They found a quiet spot on the bench out by the library. There was a sign of spring in the air, all sunny, yet the bitter bite of winter prevailed. They huddled together.

"I don't want to lose you." He looked into her eyes. She only smiled back. "Its like I dunno..anything. Not anymore. I dunno how you feel about me. Not really. And you have to know, its you, who's on my mind. Not anyone else."

She only nodded and handed him his coffee.

"You've been so great, about everything. About my brother and Liam." She told him.

"I adore Liam," Ian smiled. "When I see him, I want a kid like that." He gritted then thinking that was the wrong thing to say. "I mean, you know, I'd like that with you..but..but not right now, or anything. I mean, I think it would be ..awesome, if it happened. But some day. When, we're older..and I..."

"Stop." She told him, and he thought instantly she was going to break up with him. But she burst into laughter. "You're really going to give me a big head, you know."

"But, its how I feel about you. It is. I love you. I love seeing how you are, as this sister, this artist. I can't help it. I don't think I can shake it, you know. You must think I'm sick. And then you'll be sick of me."

She rested her chin on his shoulder. "Don't get ahead of yourself, now."

Suddenly, Ian felt it was a new chapter of some sort. They were more than friends. He wouldn't question it. She kissed him, and he kissed her back.
