like a heartattack

Rox thought she might have a heart failure when she listened to Jai talk about moving in with his Dad. It was as if Rosie took the last stab at her. Honestly, she didn't see this coming.

She'd done her best to console him. She didn't know if she could make it a day without Jai. After all, he was her child, and she'd never had any sort of lasting relationship with anyone, like she did him. Until now with Kyle. Blood was thicker than water, she supposed.

Jai made her all the more sad. She told him he didn't mean it. Didn't he want to be here with his Mom? There was that threat though..Jai would leave her some day. That's the way life was. But he'd be grown and wise by then.

"You've got Kyle." Jai told her as if he was much wiser than she'd ever be. After all, she'd married him.

"But..but..I need you too." She searched his eyes hoping he'd reconsider. "Rosie didn't mean it. She didn't."

"But her Mom is dead." His words hurt. "You never let me see my Dad." Now it was all her fault.

"That's not true. It isn't." Rox sighed. "You see him every other weekend. You know he's busy."

Jai pouted, pulling away from her. "I want to stay with my Dad." His big fat lip emerged as if it were the law now. He threw himself on the couch, and cried harder.

Rox thought she might have a melt down.

"I know what happened." She felt Kyle touch her back as she hugged herself in the kitchen. "I talked it out with Rosie. She knows she should have never said those things to him."

"God, I knew he would do this. I knew it. I just didn't know when." Rox tensed. "He makes it sound like its my fault. How, I won't let him see Jared enough." She turned and hugged him tightly. She couldn't let Jai nor Rosie rule the house. They were a family, even if it felt as if two were definitely not on the team at the moment. Somehow, they'd suffice because she knew Kyle was there for her.
