making plans

"Hey, you, being mean to your Momma?" Jared found Jai still on the couch, almost asleep. He was running a little late. It was his weekend with him.

Jared blew out a breath. Honestly, he did not want to come between Jai and his mother. After all, this was the weekend he was going to tell Jai about Jazmin with the baby on the way. Jai wasn't all that fond of Nan. After all, she did like to pull his hair and almost bit him once when Jai thought she was trying to kiss him.

Jai set up, shook his head, no. Naturally, the boy gave him the respect he expected of him.

"I want to live with you." Jai told him.

"Really?" Jared was all smiles about it. "I dunno, little dude, you'd have to sleep in Nan's room. It just wouldn't be a good time. Gotta a wedding to plan with your Aunt Jazmin." He sat down next to him.

"Auntie Jaz is getting married?" Jai swung his head up, looking at Jared as if he made weddings happen when he wasn't on the job as a cop.

"Yes, indeed." Jared smiled. "I'm gonna marry Auntie Jaz."

Jai stared at him quietly.

"And, I'd very much like for you to be my best man." Jared put his arm around him. "Its just..hmm.." Jared rubbed his thumb under his chin, wondering how best to put this. "I think I'll need you here. You know, look after your Mom. Make sure Kyle is being good to her."

Jai nodded, as if he would.

"Yeap, that's what you have to look for in a best man, one who can take care of his family." Jared smiled as his index finger touched Jai's nose. "You are really turning out to be a fine young man." Jared did his best to keep smiling. He knew Jai would turn out fine, but he knew he had nothing to do with it. Jai did have a mother who loved him. Jared couldn't deny it, and he wouldn't take that from Rox, either.
