moving on

Kayla had a slight ache between her eyes. In fact, it was a full blown head-ache due to Audrey being a no show.

Immediately, she was furious and worried. She rubbed her temples as she thought what to do at her desk. Naturally, it was Audrey's parents who called her first, hoping she was with Kayla.

"What's wrong?" Milo wheeled his chair barely through the doorway of her office. His eyes focused on her.

"Oh, its Audrey." Kayla hoped she didn't wail her name. "We have no shelver this morning, and no one seems to know where she is." Kayla heaved wanting to lay her head on her desk. Why was she so worn out, lately? She thought of the retired co-worker who she'd had lunch with recently. The older woman found out she had pneumonia and didn't even know it. Kayla made a face thinking she should make an appointment herself and get checked out, but she never had the time. Now she was probably going to have to do Audrey's job, and she needed to run reports for lost books and overdues.

"Are you sure that's all there is?" Milo wanted to know.

"My head is throbbing." She told him. Probably just a sinus infection.

"You should go home." He reminded her about the e-mail where sick staff should go home if they were ill.

"I can't." But she felt nausea too. It was all Audrey's fault. She was sure of it. Kayla's job would be so much easier if she didn't have to worry about her cousin. They should have never hired her.

"Look, Henry is here," Milo suggested. "He has nothing to do. He could get the bookdrop and shelve in house."

"I dunno." Kayla grimaced.

"We'll get what needs to be done. OK. Just..just relax." Milo told her.

Kayla was on the brink of tears. Maybe this had nothing to do with Audrey, but it would be nice if Audrey called.
