no time for show tunes

The phone call really didn't help much. Derrick left soon after he handed the phone over. Josie had to wonder if he'd done it on purpose so he wouldn't have to spend so much time with her.

She didn't mean to be sad. At the moment, she felt Derrick had the better boyfriend.

Topher talked about his band, nonstop. She thought it best to listen and not cut in, to the conversation. Yet, she felt as if she'd have more fun listening to some penguins.

Josie was pretty sure she was wasting his time, or maybe he was wasting hers. It wasn't long after, when she decided to lay down for a few minutes that she got a text from Daisy.

It was all about her job at the movie theater.

Josie called her back.

"I want a job," she said as she laid, hugging her body pillow.

"All the positions might have been filled. Besides, Derrick works there."

"Whatever." She sighed as if everyone was having fun, but her.

"Have you thought about having an Esty shop or something online with your crochet?" Daisy suggested.

"Kind of." Every year she said she was going to, but she never did. "What are you doing, right now?"

"I'm with Max." She giggled then.

"Of course, you are." Josie yawned wondering why she even asked. She wished she'd tried harder to be her friend now. Maybe it was too late. Maybe it was Max who kept them together. Right now, she felt so alone. Perhaps she was seeing a different side of Topher, too.

"What's wrong?" Daisy asked.

"You wouldn't want to know." Josie shrugged.

"Do you want us to come over?" Daisy then asked.

"Yes. And could you bring THE BIG BANG THEORY." Daisy had most of the lines from the show memorized.

"Sure."

"OK. I'll make popcorn." It was a date. Kind of. It would be nice to sit next to Max. After all, it felt like Daisy had taken him away from her.
