tell me a story

Getting any information out of Luc was like pulling teeth, Audrey supposed.

"I just want you to feel, OK, here?" She'd invited him over to the last picnic of the season, perhaps. Actually, it was Aidan's mother who invited her family. She wanted Luc there too. Of course, he was all laid back. Except, he brought his roommate along with him.

"You two have separate rooms?" Her wince was curious. Was her brother trying new things?

"God, are you seriously going to go there?" His smirk was more of a scowl as he nursed on a homemade rootbeer.

She gave him a playful shove. It was like him to not tell her anything. Besides their parents were here, and she guessed she should be with them instead of annoying him.

"Well?" Audrey hugged herself as she eye-balled him. "I couldn't help it."

"Look, I'm not seeing anyone." Luc glared. "My last girlfriend split on me. All right. End of story."

"Are you, OK?" Audrey looked hurt that she didn't know her baby brother was in love, or had been. "How come? How come you didn't tell me?"

"Sis, it was..almost a year ago." Luc festered a frown.

Audrey knew it was her fault. They weren't close. She'd shut him out. There was a time they teased each other. Spoke in British accents at her little tea-parties. Even in high school. Yes, she dared him to do things. "Its because I made you wear the bra, wasn't it?" She eyeballed him once again.

Luc cracked up. "Yes, humiliation is your forte, isn't it?" Luc glared at her to shut up before anyone thought she might be on drugs.

"Sorry, is there anyone now?" She looked over her shoulder and spotted Dorian eating another deviled egg and listening to her mother talk about their vacation in Florida.

Luc winced as if he'd have to think about that. "No, not really."

"Really?" She was beginning to doubt him. Not that she was wonderful playing cupid. "I just want you to be happy. Really happy." She gave him a hug even if the bottle of rootbeer was in the way. She was happy now. Naturally, so. She was happy with Aidan.
