a very late hour

Camille purposely forgot Black Friday. She'd worked the day after Thanksgiving. Most were taking the day off, but she'd set in, about the traffic report and filled in for her boss about how much money people were spending on the holidays. And where were our good old fashioned family values?

She didn't want any of those listeners to know, but she might not have any. She was quiet now as she was actually reading a novel on her KINDLE FIRE. Yes, she'd gotten herself an early Christmas present. She probably could have gotten a new iPad out of Drake, but seriously, she'd sent him packing. She told him she had to work. There was the work husband to tend to, her boss. Honestly, she hated her boss so much, but they tended to get along (or at least he thought so) and there really was no love lost between them.

It was a job. Not a big one, but it helped to make voice overs and commercials. Sometimes, you might here her voice on the local news. OK, that was her with the traffic report.

What a laugh it was to hear from folks calling in, at the radio station how they wanted to see her. Why wasn't she on the news? Honestly, she knew she was too old. Men could stay on the news a lot longer than women. It was a good thing they only dealt with her voice.

Now she was in her yoga pants and soft winter sweater tunic sprawled out on the couch with her important black rimmed eye-glasses on, finding her way through WARM BODIES. Honestly, she couldn't be more content, and then someone knocked at the front door. It was going on mid-night. She wasn't going to open her door until she noticed through the peep hole that Zak was standing there.

"What happened?" She asked, knowing he looked pretty darn miserable. "Weren't you on a date?" She thought she'd heard him leave with one of Josie's friends. Maybe this was about Josie. He couldn't stand the thought of her with Ian. It was just a guess.

"I dunno." He shrugged and came in, as if he felt more at home here than at his own house. "It wasn't really a date."

"You know, Josie isn't anything like she used to be." Camille reminded him, as he came into the livingroom and sat on the couch sullen, hugging himself. "She has Ian." Hopefully, he knew he didn't have a chance with her now.

"I know." Still straight lipped. They'd dropped him off because Josie and Ian needed some alone time. Camille didn't dare want to add anything to that. She could only hope it didn't mean what she thought it meant, but she highly doubted they were playing chess at the moment while sipping hot chocolate.

"So." She remembered she had some pumpkin gooey bars in the fridge that need to be eaten. She went to get them hoping he'd be interested. He followed, leaving his fedora on the couch.

Soon enough, Zak made himself comfortable in the kitchen while she got out the milk. Maybe this was the sure fire way to get him sleepy, to go home to hibernate.

"Did you even talk to this girl?" Camille prodded on about Daisy.

Zak shook his head, no.

"I don't think she wanted to talk to me." He shrugged as he gulped down the milk.

"I don't know why." Camille smiled.

"Only Freshmen girls like me." He looked as if it were a curse.

"And that's a problem?" Camille almost laughed. She finally gave in and helped herself to a gooey bar. She needed milk too.

"Well..you know." He winced as if it was a bit disgusting about his fans. "They're such little girls. I don't want to go out with a little girl."

"I say, you should, ask out a lot of girls. Talk. Lots of talking. And you never know, you just might find..well, someone..you're glad you finally found." She did her best to sound optimistic.

"What about you?" He looked her in the eye.

"What about me?" She couldn't help but smile.

"I dunno. Does that kind of stuff work, for you?" He wanted to know.
She really didn't have a good answer for him.
