like a quiet song
How could this be happening? Luna didn't leave Holden's side. No, it wasn't because it was her new step-brother came to live with them and that's what a good sister should do.
There was something deeper. Yet, she had a hard time thinking of the darkness of it. But yes, she was enamored with him. But he didn't know it. She'd covered her feelings very well. After all, she accused him of a lot of things. Now she wished she hadn't been so negative around him. Making this transition hard. Maybe if she'd been nicer to him, none of this would have ever happened.
She'd even found it funny why he'd came to live with them. It seemed his religious mother couldn't handle the rebellious sort. Holden had a sleepover. And it involved a girl.
She knew of it, but there was no time to really know the truth about it. He was quiet. Her step-father wasn't one to discuss it with her mother.
As it was, he had his room. His car. He was just in the guestroom. And maybe, maybe she hadn't made him feel welcomed. Even if she really wanted to, but she couldn't let herself. After all, they were family.
But now, she wanted the chance. She prayed for him. Promised she'd be nice to him. She wanted to know the real Holden. But she couldn't promise anyone that she wouldn't fall in love with him. Because she already had.
She found him so sincere. She liked his unruly hair, how his fingers touched things. Luna felt bad that she'd been so mean to him. And it made her happy to know, it was all because of him that she'd never let herself get involved with Van. Well, maybe with a little help from Syreeta made it possible too.
What she felt for Holden was much more sacred than she'd ever feel for anyone else. She didn't want to lose him now.
