no fooling around

Jane kept smiling as Rosie talked and talked, about everything. She talked about her Dad for quite awhile and how she used to have this other Dad.

"But I don't see him much, anymore. He's got my sister. I don't think Uncle Asa gets to see her, either." Rosie informed her.

"We'll have to talk to Uncle Asa about that, won't we?" Jane nodded as she took Mattie before Rosie tried to lug her around. She supposed Rosie would be careful, but she didn't want to chance it. Rosie opened the box of candy and offered some to Jane.

"Thank you." Jane took a chocolate one, full of caramel. Her favorite.

Still, this wasn't exactly what she'd expected. It felt kind of like a nightmare, but not quite. She could manage. Hopefully. But Rosie was a handful.

"Did you know my Mommie?" Rosie's question stung Jane deep.

"No, no I didn't." Jane tried to keep smiling, wishing Asa would come back. What were they up too? Wasn't Rosie here to see her Uncle Asa?

Jane didn't really want to discuss Amanda. She bit her bottom lip, waiting patiently for Asa to come to the rescue, but it didn't seem likely.

"Where did you meet my uncle?" She was smooth with her questions as she looked Jane over.

"The library." This was true.

"Why did you go to the library?" Rosie's questions kept coming.

"Well," Jane sighed. "I wanted to see if I needed to join the library, so I could take Mattie to Baby and Me story-time."

"You don't have to join the library for that." Rosie said matter of  fact. She flicked her golden curls over her shoulder, as to not spoil her frilly Easter dress. Jane could see Rosie clearly wanted to show it off to her. She did look as if she were ready for a couple of pictures.

"I see." Jane nodded. "So how was your Valentines day? Did you get a lot of Valentines?" Jane decided she'd ask Rosie questions. She nodded.

"We had heart shaped pizza." She smiled. "And we watched movies, at home. We didn't really do anything." She sat down on the couch next to Jane. "Sometimes, Derrick brings home pizza from work."

"That's nice." Jane kept smiling.

"He's been sick." Rosie informed her.

Jane gritted, hoping none of them would get sick from the visit.

Finally, Asa showed up. Derrick was holding Dylan.

Asa, luckily, took over the visit with Rosie. He ate a chocolate, but told her he would have to bring them to work and share.

Jane was waiting for a second round of questions from Derrick, but he was preoccupied with Dylan.
