sooner or later

It took some time. Actually, a great deal of sulking to come to terms with all these new transitions in Jonah's life. He never liked change. He didn't, but that didn't seem to really matter. Hayley was determined to hang out with Archie, and Fiona was definitely going to have Gilly's baby.

Jonah tried to fight it as long as he could. First the silent treatment. Then telling them all to piss off. He really was angry, but still he had to tag along if he wanted to be fed, or get through the day.

It wasn't until he was out at the mall waiting for Fiona and Gilly to get some frozen yogurt when a little girl came over and asked if the baby he was holding was his.

"No, it his." He pointed to Gilly.

"So you're an uncle." She smiled.

Jonah grimaced, wanting to tell the six year old, 'Hell, no!' but instead he managed, "Me? An Uncle?"

"Of course, you are." The little girl smiled. "You look just like your brother." She pointed to Gilly.

Jonah almost smiled. No one, ever said that to him before. But he guessed they were family. There was no need to stress. He couldn't think of ever living without them.

After all, Fiona was still on her feet most days, talking to mothers and teenage girls about the right kind of makeups they should use at the drug store. She was a hard worker. Then to treat Tristan as her own was rather unconditional too.

It was settled. They'd need a bigger flat. They were on a waiting list now, and Jonah decided he would try to be friends with Archie before it was too late. Of course, Hayley informed him that she knew he'd come around. Sooner or later.
