its coming up daisies
It was a surprise when he saw her. Evidently, Camille hibernated way too long. There was something different about her. Asa couldn't exactly put his finger on it. The fact remained, she'd put on a few pounds this winter. Yet, he wouldn't hold it against her. He was happy to see her at the library.
"I was wondering what had happened to you?" He was all grins. Maybe it was true, absence made the heart grow fonder. He came out from behind the counter and gave her a hug.
"I wanted to get these in before I got a fine." She gritted a grin, not letting him get too close. They were CD books, mainly thrillers from Clive Cussler.
"I had no idea you were even in to this author." He kept grinning as she lined up the five CD books. He took her for more of a Nicholas Sparks fan.
"I'm not. Just returning them for a friend." She told him.
Asa checked them in. Evidently, Camille was sweet on someone. She really went out of her way for this person. Even picking up books from the library for them.
"There is..something..I guess..I should talk to you about." She winced.
"And what can I help you with?" He said in a rather enthused librarian way about what was new in novels.
"Its..its about Derrick." She nodded ever so pleasant. She told him about Joe's troubles in jail and how she'd asked Derrick to come live with her.
"I see." He guessed it was a good idea. Maybe.
"Its not like we see each other, much anymore." She bit a grin as if her time were up.
"Well, you could. You, should really see Dylan." Asa looked at her a little puzzled. He didn't think he was keeping her grandson away from her. He didn't want to feel guilty.
"Maybe soon." She nodded as if she had a lot on her plate right now. Her job. Now Derrick.
"Is there anything else I need to know." Asa wanted to know as she was leaving.
"I guess I should tell you." She shrugged, but then she acted as if she shouldn't.
"Tell me what?" He winced.
"A baby." She just said.
"Where? Are you going somewhere to adopt one?" Asa grinned. He was happy for her, but she looked a little frazzled about it.
"No." She shook her head.
"Well, that's great you're going adopt one, right here." Asa thought it was a great idea.
"No, I'm actually having one." She looked at him blankly.
Asa drew a breath. What else was she keeping from him?
