who's the bad guy now

the brighter side

"So, he's really not giving you a hard time, is he?" Sawyer wanted to know as soon as band practice was over. He went down to the basement to help Syreeta put away the equipment. Sawyer guessed there was never a good time to bring up Zac.

When he and Syreeta were together it was moments of teasing each other, smiling and holding hands, he didn't want to think about Zac then, but it was times like these he was afraid Zac was being a total butthead to Syreeta, and he knew it was probably his fault.

He didn't know it when he met her, there was a thing between them. Not that Syreeta brought it up. Zac's Mom told him about it. She said Syreeta had been Zac's girlfriend. Still, Sawyer wondered now..if..he knew exactly what he was doing with Syreeta. Probably not the kind of boyfriend stuff as with Zac, but she hadn't complained. They enjoyed each others company. It felt like everything was an adventure with Syreeta. The good thing was, they could have fun doing nothing.

Naturally, she wouldn't talk to him about Zac with Zac being so close in the basement. So they waited for him to leave, but he didn't. He looked at Syreeta as if he needed something. Sawyer took her hand.

"Lets see if we can find some ice cream." Sawyer knew she had to be hungry.

"You, make it so hard to be vegetarian." She informed him as she followed him up the basement stairs.

"Well, who wants vegetables in their ice cream?" He smirked as he went to dig in the freezer for the vanilla ice cream. There was rootbeer in the fridge. She helped him with the mugs, and he put plenty of ice cream in each while she poured the rootbeer.

"Everything is fine, with Zac." She told him once they got settled in the livingroom with the rootbeer floats. "He doesn't actually talk to me, anyway."

"But..but he's your ex." Sawyer looked at her as he took his time with the thick drink.

"No, he's not." She shook her head, no. "He was just doing Fish a favor. Taking me out. It was nothing."

"God, I really thought he hated me." Sawyer sighed as he scratched the back of his head in thought. He thought maybe it wasn't true about the favor. Not that he thought Syreeta was a liar. It was Zac who was lying to himself.
