Where ever you may wonder

Where ever you may wonder

Max wanted to say it was just a sinus infection, maybe even the flu, but he couldn't stop crying, lately. Even when he wanted too. Even now, out in the cold as he walked to Asa's, where he used to live, his eyes were hot with tears. Nothing was turning out like it was suppose too.

Somehow, he was now taking Angie to the dance.

"How did that happen?" Asa wanted to know who was heating up milk on the stove for real cocoa.

"I..I just asked her how she was doing." He was trying to explain to Asa about her fainting spell at the grocery store and how he'd gone to the hospital with her to make sure she was all right. "I don't think anyone would really want to see me at a dance." He sniffed harder and then blew his nose.

"I think you, should come home." Asa told him. "If it doesn't feel right being at Daisy's house-"

Max shook his head, no. He knew he needed to be there even if things weren't really right with Daisy. "I can't love her. I just can't." He broke down. He coughed into a paper towel. "I know its me. It is me. I keep thinking how she told me I was boring. I was never any fun." He remembered as if she'd said those very words to him this morning, but it happened so long ago. He still couldn't completely forget how she broke up with him before he started seeing Sara.

"Are you two even talking?" Asa wanted to know as he put in a dollop of Cool Whip on the hot cocoa.

"Not really." Max cleared his throat. He nursed on the hot drink as if it might warm his sore throat. And it did.

He looked around the kitchen. It was still his sister's kitchen. In spite of Asa moving on with Jane, he hadn't done a thing to the kitchen. It was just the way Amanda left it. A room so sunny, even in the depths of winter.

Max really wished he could come home.

"Look, your room is just the way you, left it." It was actually Derrick's room before it was his.

Max only nodded.

"I think, you might feel better if you, were here, instead of there." Asa sighed. "Its just things are kind of crazy at the moment." Asa sighed as if he had some big news himself. "Jane's pregnant."

Max looked at him startled. He hadn't expected to hear something like that, but he could tell on Asa's face that this was the best thing that had ever happened to him in a very long time.
