it couldn't be trouble

It couldn't be trouble

Vada had a lot on her mind. Especially, Henry, who was home from the hospital. But he was still on bed rest. Sort of. He was suppose to be resting, but she bet he was in that sewing room of his, cutting out plaid pants. What was it about plaid?

And they would be for Leo. Everything he made was always for Leo. Still there was the vivid nightmare of Henry on the floor flinching so, as if he might have been a robot with a very bad battery. And of course, Gage who was not the surprise of the dinner, after all.

Now she was at school and Joel was running late. In fact, he was running down the hall just in a white Tee and his track pants. He didn't even have a hoodie on this chilly spring day.

"I can't find my sister." He was out of breath. He did look troubled. Immediately, Vada went to her locker and pulled out the old sweater that used to be Henry's and she pulled it over his head as if she wouldn't have him freezing to death. It was March and the wind was bitter cold.

"What happened?" Vada wanted to know.

"I don't know why I told her." He looked as if he was going to have a melt down. "I should have kept my mouth shut. I should have." He nursed his bottom lip.

"What did, you tell her?" Vada winced.

"Something..something Roman said, after I got home..from..from your house." His lips were a straight line as if he couldn't possible spare more bad news on top of what happened to Henry.

"What did Roman do now?" Vada hugged herself.

"He..He said the only reason I was going out with you..is..is because you look like my sister." Joel made a face of disgust. As if this might actually bother him.

Vada rolled her eyes.

"And what did she say?" Vada wanted know.

"That..that I shouldn't believe him." He swelled a frown as they walked to his locker.

"He's so childish. Its hard to believe he's actually graduating." Vada smirked. "Look, he's got nothing on us." Vada looked at Joel out of the corner of his eye.

"I know. Its..its Nora, I'm worried about." Joel told her. "She doesn't even have her cell phone."

Vada looked to see someone hiding in her pink hoodie with shades on. Vada noticed Nora was not with Roman. But he was blond. "I think she found some one."

"Him?" Joel didn't sound happy about the idea of his sister with the star football player Grayson.
