just a little chat

just a little chat

Dustin was having more luck with the cat kissing him than Halie, lately. But she hung on to every word Felix said. Was it just his imagination, or did she fancy him?

Well, he wasn't getting any sleep, and he wished his tuxedo cat would stop trying to bump his nose on his when he was trying a little shut eye.

And then it must have been around 4 in the morning, he heard his mum giggling.

Now that was a real mystery.

Sure, a lot of folks always suspected he lived with  his sister, but everyone that knew them in the beginning knew she had a rather matronly figure for quite sometime. But now, she was just skinny. He didn't know what was going on.

He peeked from the curtains to see if he could make out anyone. Who ever she was with, was here.

Now Dustin had a real mystery on his hands.  So he called Macy.

"I think,me mum, is with someone." He whispered.

"What?" She sounded as if she didn't want to know, but she asked the question, anyway.

"Dustin, you have to stop calling me." Macy finally said.

"Why?" He didn't see this coming. "No, please, don't say that." He didn't understand. "You're like the best mate... I ever had."

"It just feels that way. Its not true." She informed him as if she was the biggest faker in the world.

"I don't believe you." He wouldn't think it was just a false friendship. "I like you."

"OK." She sighed as if she was having trouble with the realization. "I like you too..but..but you're not my boyfriend."

"Yeah. I know."  He winced as if that was a laugh.

"What's wrong with you and Halie?" She asked.

"Nothing." But he knew it was a lie. "OK..I'm pretty sure she likes Felix because he has money."

"Well..if he has money..then..won't you have money too?" Macy reminded him.

"No, not like he has. He has a trust fund, and cars and a posh town..something..something.." Dustin wasn't really wanting to talk about Felix. It really wasn't all that important to him. Besides, when he went to London, his Dad was out of town. But he'd seen photos of him. He was the kind of man who knew his way in the world. He was more than a boy in a band that his mum met at a ..music festival, well over a decade ago. "He doesn't want to know me."

It hurt to say the truth. But it was true. And he only had Macy to confide in.

"Please, don't be mad. I'm not trying to break you  up..with..with..Gage. I just need ..someone to talk too. You know."

"I know."

He knew that she knew he was crying.

"Maybe..maybe you're like this little sister I never had." His throat was parched.  And he felt sick, a bit choked up. "If..if only I could have met you..instead of Felix."

He heard footsteps in the kitchen then. Dustin knew they weren't his mother's.

"We're good?" He cleared his throat.

"Yeah."

"Good." He clicked off then, as he brushed the tears away with the back of his thumb. He had to find out who his mother was with.

  1. Maybe he needs to call Hallie instead of Macy, for starters.
