brother to brother

brother to brother

"What?" Ruben looked at his brother as if he'd really lost it this time. "Are you kidding me? A surrogate? You, don't have that kind of money."

"What would you know, you have your own family. I have nothing." Garvin was telling him about this man he'd met and his son, the man who created his own family. Garvin thought that was the way to go.

"Oh, God. Well, maybe if..if you were a millionare. Even Tom Cruise adopted." Ruben sighed, as they sat out in the late Indian summer sun in the back yard, while Abel and Dorian played in the kiddie pool. "You're just going through a rough patch."

"I dunno. I'm just not good at finding someone." Garvin shook his head and took another sip of his beer.

"Well, I think if you just go on, about your business..it'll come to you. You'll see."

"That's not going all that well, you know." Garvin did look sad.

"I thought Maggie was not that kind of woman. I thought..." Ruben still couldn't believe she'd left him so quickly.

"I don't want to talk about it. I really think she needed to sew some wild oats of her own."

"You, and that perspective of yours. Let them walk all over you, and say it so genuine and generous how its not their fault, when you know it is." Ruben shook his head. "God, you were such a lover boy, in school."

"I was not." Garvin winced hard.

"You, always had boxes of Valentines candy. Think of the notes they'd leave you. You, were a spoiled brat."

"No, you have it all wrong. You, were the spoiled brat." Garvin shook his head.

"Just, tell me...you won't do anything stupid. Right?" Ruben looked at him, but Garvin didn't have an answer for him.

  2. I don't think Garvin should do anything so quickly... he needs to give it a little time
