no trouble here

no trouble here

"Oh..I just don't know." Sara felt lost for words. Here she was calling Charlie, wishing Charlie was here to talk to Mae, instead of her. "I'm just not a very good friend." They were sharing a hotel room together while Ben and Taylor were next door.

Mae told Sara the whole miserable story how she got pregnant with Ben's baby that was suppose to be Karl's. Mae couldn't go through with it, with her sister's husband, but she told her sister they'd had sex like she wanted them too. "What kind of sister does that?" Sara winced, thinking what kind of crazy families were there?

"Well, I'm glad you're there. And to listen. She needs somebody to listen. You know, don't..don't judge..OK." Charlie just said, as if she might have some troubles of her own.

"Is everything, OK?" Sara asked. "Um Uh..Lily kept going on and on about Barry. I mean, what's going on with you two?"

Sara was waiting downstairs in  a coffee shop for Taylor, who was off taking a walk with Ben, who was a little apprehensive about meeting Caden. Mae went on her own to meet with child services who were with the little boy.

"What are you talking about?" Now Charlie sounded alarmed. "There is nothing going on. He helps out with Lily when Draco's parents can't." Then in the next breath she was talking about how she couldn't depend on them anymore for anything. "He just picks her up from school. That's all."

"You're not cleaning house for him, or anything?" Sara wanted to know.

"What? Why would I do that?" Charlie raised her voice as if Sara had no right to question her.

"I just..wonder..are you really happy..with..with Carson?" A part of Sara wanted to make a play for him just to show Charlie how Carson could be, but she wouldn't think of doing such a thing. Not when she was happy to be with Taylor. She only wanted Charlie to be happy. Just this one little thing. How hard could that be?

"Look, we'll get together when you get home. Maybe a movie." Charlie didn't say a word about Carson. Sometimes, Sara thought Charlie was the bravest person she'd ever met. Still, she felt sad for her. Even now.

  1. Sometimes brave people put a face on... I think that's why we feel sad for them..
