a boy named Bear

a boy named Bear

Alo chose to be on Bear's side. After all, he really didn't want to lose his closest cousin.

Something had gone wrong during the holidays. Yes, that's where it started. Or maybe..it was way before then.

But Alo thought Bear had his life, all figured out. He was going in to Animal Science, but that must have been a pipe dream or something. Bear just couldn't pass a class, yet there were all these drawings in his notebooks.

Although, that was beside the point. After all, Bear found out he was more than just a cousin to Alo. They were brothers. And he didn't like it.

"Well, which is better..to keep it a secret forever or to know!" They'd had some words too, over the phone. Still, Alo wanted Bear to come to America. "We WILL FIGURE it out!"

But they hadn't yet.

Alo, perhaps dragging his feet, didn't do anything much..but work. And he didn't hear from Bear for the longest time. Long after the new year. Perhaps, they were seriously, a lot alike.

Bear hadn't gone back to the University. There was a time, Alo didn't even know where Bear was. Naturally, he had to hear it all from his mother. Daily. Bear wasn't speaking to her.

Eventually, Bear got on a plane and arrived two days before Valentines day. There was no time, for long talks. Alo was in the middle of a play with Vada.

Bear was being coy. Alo didn't even know where he'd been before the dinner started with Frankie and Lottie. Certainly, not thinking about classes at the local University.

"I think I found a house for us." He announced as their little dinner progressed.

Alo looked at him as if he couldn't be serious.

"That was something..we..were..." Alo's voice faded with a never-mind look. He sighed. It was obvious Bear didn't have the money. He didn't have that luxury. After all, not even his father knew.

Dinner went on without a snare. Bear made Lottie giggle over something. She'd never seen anyone eat, quite so manly with a knife. Naturally, Bear flirted back.

Oh, Alo did not see this coming.  He looked at Vada. Then at Frankie, who looked quite oblivious to Bear's nature. Alo pressed his lips tight, thinking this might be the headache he never hoped for.
