my heart

my heart

Dustin wasn't sure he had his wits about him. Perhaps the air travel was a bit much. After all, he was a guy who hardly knew much about a car. But the past few days were a whirlwind. And it was hard to get much out of Macy. He didn't want to press her on their relationship. Friendship, he was beginning to think.

It would drive him to despair if he dwelt on it. And then when he found out he was at the wrong University, he just about lost it.

The secretary brought him a cup of tea, but it was barely brown water. It was disgusting, saturated in sugar.

"We have two branches." She informed him they weren't but an hour away. "You'll want to go to UNO. The one in Omaha."

"OH." Well, he felt like an idiot now. He'd flown into Eppley Airport and caught a bus here. Not even having a chance, to hardly say good-bye to Macy. After all, she was rather indifferent. He choked down the sugar syrup. Honestly, he hoped he never had to have another drink of this so-called tea.

"Someone from the Uni is here, he can drive, you back." She told him.

"Well, that..that would be great." He couldn't help to smile. Still, he wasn't so sure it was his lucky day. He didn't even have a place to stay. And he was so bloody tired.

He felt so helpless. Numb.

Had he ever done anything worthwhile in his life?

It did haunt him. All the things he never went through with. Like actually meeting his real father. He should have. Yet, he didn't want a thing to do with him.

Then the thought of Alec and Halie. Why had he failed them. He'd let them down. He was good at letting people down.

He knew now, he wasn't much different from his father. And he wanted to change that. Except, he really didn't want to be a bother, to anyone.
