Out in the great wild yonder

Out in the Great Wild Yonder

Gage and Halie went roughing it, for a whole two weeks with his Dad and Ren out in the Black Hills of  South Dakota.

Two weeks away from Alec. He wasn't sure Halie could bare it, but she shocked him. Even he was getting a bit anxious. Especially, on that one day when they didn't get any reception on the phones.

Yes, Gage had never felt so cut off from civilization before. Of course, Ren was as cool as the coolest. This was a woman who could be ready for any disaster. There was plenty of peanut butter and honey sandwiches.

His Dad loved this life. Especially, the fishing. And Halie didn't get in a bad mood once.

"What's the matter with you?" He asked about three days out. They'd walked, canoed, even fished for their dinner and Halie wasn't complaining.

"What?" She looked at him as if he should have known she was one to stick with the program after all.

"Don't you wish, we'd..you know, flown somewhere, like home to see your mom?" Gage guessed he shouldn't have brought it up.

"That's not my home." She told him. "Besides, its breath-taking here. And I'm with you." She smiled.

Gage was relieved. He wanted to believe that she meant it.

Maybe, he'd gotten her all wrong. Maybe it was time to let go of the idea, that she might be using him and only wanted him around for their baby, Alec.

Of course, he felt rather sad to think that way. He did want to trust her. And maybe he did, after all. He just didn't know it, until now.

  1. I do hope he puts more trust and faith in the situation.

  2. I think Halie means it... I don't think you can hide that... I know that kind of life wouldn't be good for me, I need people and the city ...
