"What the f u c k is going on?" Holly couldn't help, but to give Dustin the eye.
"Aw, its..its really not that big of a deal." He held on to the heavy stuff while she carried the snacks to the buss stop. She was already eating on a peach.
"Huh?" She looked at him as if he better fess up.
"It happened last summer. I guess." Dustin sighed. "I was in England then, and I was with..with Halie, but I'd gotten to know Gage's girlfriend." He shut his eyes tight as if he didn't want to think about it.
Finally, Dustin stopped in his tracks, once they got to the bus stop. "I did something awful." He sighed as he put down the heavy bag on the bench.
"Like what?" Holly's stare seized him, as he set down with the bag between them.
"It was like something from a movie. I..I just thought all my troubles would be over if..if I kissed her..and I..I kissed Macy, right at the airport. As if she'd came for me..not Gage. Besides, Gage has a baby son with Halie. Anyway, it worked. It worked out for them. They are together now. And, and doing well..or so it seems. I hope its that way. Even if Halie can be a right nutter.. when she wants to be." He squinted, as if he didn't miss her a bit.
"What happened with you and Macy?" Holly wanted to know.
"Oh, I guess I prolonged things, too long. I mean, I didn't want her to think I'd wanted her to come all that way just to shag, you know. I mean, I guess wanted it to be different with her." He sighed. "And..and I'm older. I dunno where it went all wrong, but it did. And I'd put in for this..this exchange student thing..so long ago." He told Holly if he let himself, he'd get so depressed. "But look...I found you..and..its.. such..a lovely thing." His smile lingered. "I wouldn't give that up for anything."
