that's how it is

its that time of year

Was it really Homecoming?

Well, Lizzy hadn't thought about it much. She practically felt she  had a grownup life now. Her class load was only in the morning at school. Thankfully, she was no longer at the movie theater. She'd been around enough popcorn to last her a life time.

"I bet you, wished you worked here." Lizzy smiled at Macy as she handed the paperwork to her father. Lizzy rarely saw anyone she actually knew at the dentist office where she worked.

"Who are you, again?" Macy winced hard.

Lizzy's smile was open.

For starters, Lizzy was sure she knew Macy's dad better than Macy. Of course, she spent a lot of time at Macy's parents house.

"You know, I'm still with Rico, don't you?" That sister of his probably wasn't even listening. Lizzy assumed Macy was a princess of some kind. Didn't Macy remember all those videos Rico sent last winter when his car hit a snowbank. Or the time...oh..that was last homecoming. Rico dressed in a flashy tux and Lizzy wore red.

Macy was giving her a funny look. At the moment Lizzy didn't care if she knew Rico's sister or not. She wished Rico would stop worrying about Macy. It didn't look like Macy would ever worry about Rico.

No, Lizzy was certain now, she was the only one who cared what happened to that boy, who knew so much more Spanish than he'd ever admit.
