Omaha did make it sound... Emily might be not of this earth. Taylor remembered when he used to think that about her. Back when he was on the straight and narrow and practically would become a preacher for Emily, just so they could get married.
But then he remembered seeing her with Omaha.
"You, must have really done something, to her." He shook his head with a sigh.
"Done something?" Omaha would hardly touch his beer. He seemed awful sad about something. Was he still hung up on Emily?
"I don't think..she..even..remembers me." Omaha pressed his lips tight and finally took a sip of beer.
"Yeah, right..she just doesn't want that Mitch to know, who she's with now." Taylor nodded. He finished up his can of beer and got them each another. "You know," Taylor thought of something as he cracked open another beer. "We should..just hang out with that Mitch.. some time..and let him know..what we know about Emily." Now, he thought it was funny that he'd thought of that.
Omaha squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head, no.
"Just..forget it..Will you?" Omaha looked at him, that it wouldn't be worth it. "Its OK, if..if I meant nothing to her." He sniffed as if he might have a bad cold coming on. "I'd rather not..ever go..there..again. I didn't really know..what I was doing. I was just tired of thinking of one person, all this time. Like, like how could I have stopped her, from doing what she did."
His eyes were wet. Tears streamed down his face.
Taylor knew they weren't talking about Emily. But he knew Omaha had a lot to say, about Carmen.
