a life like ours

a life like ours

Joey was there to pick up Dakota, after school. He'd gotten a call from Xander about Simon(Xander's half brother) so he was going to take Dakota to his new place with Liv.

"Its kind of messy." He hadn't really helped Liv with any of her stuff. As it was, she wasn't feeling so well in the evening, lately. He just wasn't sure he was really ready to tell Dakota why. He'd promised her grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup.

As he looked around the little starter home, he knew he should have thought about Dakota more. He hadn't planned on his daughter living with them. It left him uneasy now.  He nursed his bottom lip as she sat on the couch with her little backpack.

Of course, she'd been texting Sunny.

"He went to his girlfriend's house." Dakota told him.

"Girlfriend?" Joey cracked a laugh as he went to the kitchen to get the skillet ready and the soup on while Liv was in the bathroom. "He's not old enough for a girlfriend."

"Lots of people in my class are already going steady." She informed  him, ever so serious.

"What?" The laugh got stuck in his throat, wondering where was this conversation going. "You're going steady with somebody?" He winced.

"Only for four hours." Dakota shrugged. "We broke up at lunch."

"Today?" He was in shock. "Well, you don't look too shook up, about it." He went back to get the sandwiches ready with slices of cheese as the butter sizzled in the skillet.

"Why should it bother me?" She was even lipped. "I broke up with him."

Joey watched the sandwiches cook on the stove. He supposed it wouldn't bother her at all about Liv's pregnancy.
