keeping it simple

keeping it simple

"Well, yeah, I'm gonna do something on Valentines Day." Rosie told her Dad over the phone. She didn't want to spend it with him. "I have a boyfriend, you know."

In fact, she'd gave him a makeover. Now, everyone knew what she did about Sunny. Yeah, he was hot, especially in her eyes.

"Boyfriend?" He questioned as if he'd forgot. "Oh yeah, that's right." Her dad sounded to be in a good mood. He was now working for a Mart where he unloaded boxes. It sounded as if he worked in the cold. She hope he didn't get sick, but of course, she didn't mention the worry. She let him have his say.

"All right, if you don't need me, then I'll be going out with someone else for Valentines Day." He humored her.

"Who?" Rosie wanted to know. "That friend you grew up with?"

"Aw.." She was certain he would say NO, but in  his next breath. "She invited me over for dinner."

"Oh really?" For all she knew he might spend the night. She winced thinking she shouldn't think that way about her dad, but he'd been secretive for a long time now. She still hadn't seen her one and only grandmother, in forever. "How's Nana doing these days?" Rosie asked. "Are you still living with her?"

He chuckled.

"She never gets a moments peace. Busy at the hospital." Her dad told her. Rosie didn't know if she really believed him. She found her mother's family much more reliable.

"Well, have a good Valentines Day." Rosie would leave it at that. She wouldn't ask too much of him. "Maybe we can go out, to a movie."

"OK." He sounded as if he were up for it.

"Just let me know, ahead of time." Rose told him she wanted to bring Sunny along.

"Are you sure you want him to meet your dear old Dad?" The laugh in his voice almost irritated Rosie.

"Don't you want to meet him?" Rosie asked.

"All right, if you insist." He sounded so indifferent.

Rosie sighed when she got of her smart phone with him. Sometimes, she felt she was the grownup and he was the wayward teenager she had to keep up with.
