spare the details

spare the details

Ed found out it was no problem to get the time off. Still, he didn't think it was a good idea.

"Why not? You, get free room and board and the beach," Omaha said while they were shoveling snow, once again.

Funny, how these meet ups were too frequently, lately. Winter should be over, but it seemed to have a late start this year.

"Aren't you two, you know..." Omaha didn't finish his thought, he went back to shoveling in the cold wind to clear Betty's driveway.

Ed gritted. He didn't want to quite believe it. Yes. No. He'd decided he needed to give Betty space.

"Well.." He didn't really want to talk about it. He didn't want to say it was a random romance, but maybe it was no better than meeting someone at an apartment complex and hooking up. He wasn't exactly proud of those days.

"I dunno." Ed sighed, thinking it did feel like home, being with Betty. "She is moody." It was damn cold. He knew where he wanted to sleep tonight, and it wasn't alone.

"Yeah, she can be a hellcat, when she wants too, so don't get on her bad side." Omaha told him.

"Bad side?" Ed winced. He didn't want that.

"You, just better go along with it." Omaha nodded. The cold was bitter. This winter had chilled Ed to the bone.

Ed remained straight lipped. Why was he fighting it? Starting something with Betty. It had nothing to do with age. The fact remained, did he really deserve having a good solid relationship? She'd supported him like no one else. She'd slipped him into her life, like he was an important piece to the puzzle.

Ed nodded. He knew Omaha was right.
