Just because

"I dunno," Sawyer said to no one but himself. Evidently. His brother Roger hardly ever listened to him. "Maybe, I thought we were back together, but we really aren't." He shook the thought of Angie not with him. It seemed to be going well with Angie now he had heard from her in weeks. What had happened?

He went to wash another dish since his brother hadn't gotten the dishwasher fixed. In fact, his brother wasn't keeping up his Dad's place, like he should be, but he didn't mention it to Roger because all he thought lately was work. He practically slept there.

The fridge was empty. Serious, Sawyer should think about finding a job and not worrying about Angie's whereabouts. But he couldn't help it. She was the only thing right in his life. He'd decided. Didn't she know that he needed her?

He wanted her to move in with him. They could finally be together.

But, this place wasn't nearly as charming as he remembered. His brother was practically a confirmed bachelor who'd become an old miser at the young age of 30.

Naturally, Roger didn't say a word to him. He bit into a rotten apple that went straight to the trash.

"Aren't you composting?" Sawyer then asked.

Nothing. Not a word from Roger. Maybe he'd lost his speech. Was Sawyer supposed to remain quiet? And be a hipster monk?

He sighed as he rinsed another dish of the endless dirty dishes.

His phone rang in his back pocket. Just as he expected, it wasn't Angie, but Evan. He wasn't sure if he should take it or not. Finally, he said, "Hullo."

To Sawyer's surprise, Evan was in town. He wanted to see him.
