to bring us back where we started
Will knew Lux was still upset about her brother moving in with Jordan. Maybe she was right, but maybe Lux was thinking of her own life instead of Jordan. It was hard to tell. It left him in a squint and too much to ponder when he was putting books away at the library.
"Has Lux ever mentioned Jake's father?" Will asked Evan on break.
"You're much closer to Lux, than I am." Evan shrugged as he went to fetch an extra protein bar from his locker to give to Will.
Will almost cracked with laughter. "That was the same thing I was thinking of you. You, know her best." Will sighed, trying to get back to the fact he needed to wait for Lux to confide in him, but what if that never happened.
He'd hate to upset her. If only he knew what to say, he wanted to be the friend that Lux needed, but as it was, they were careful around each other, handing off the baby from time to time. They really didn't do that much together.
Will was beginning to think he would always be set in these confined ways, and he was afraid he would lose Lux if he didn't step it up.
"I don't.." He started before he knew what he was actually saying, "I don't want to be just Lux's roommate."
"Oh." Evan looked at him brightly as if maybe Will was madly in love with Lux.
"I want to be her friend." Will pressed his lips tight.
"I think you're friends," Evan assured him. Will nodded, maybe Evan was right, but he wanted to really talk with Lux. What would it take for that to happen?
