Autumn moments

Oh, those crazy nights of October. Rosie could barely keep up, but felt herself wanting to go more since homecoming. Of course, these nights were casual and getting colder by the day. It was good to be with Sunny for those nights out.

It was at a cookout that she met Monty. This fellow moved to his own beat. One might have thought he was drunk, but he had a pocket full of suckers in his denim jacket and some girl named Jess stood by him to keep him from doing anything too crazy.

But this guy could dance. Rosie couldn't help but watch him.

"That's Wes' brother," Sunny told her. She'd never imagined that. She couldn't think of his rich friend Wes having a brother. Of course, Sunny wasn't exactly talking to Wes these days.

Rosie hugged herself deciding she wouldn't get to know him. Monty was probably trouble.

"He doesn't live with Wes," Sunny told her Monty lived with Jess.

Rosie was sure it must not be that complicated. Maybe Monty and Wes were only half-brothers. Maybe Monty had never been around Wes' family. Still, Monty was like a big kid. There was something about him that made her smile.

She hated the thought of wanting to get to know him, but he was so different from stuck-up Wes who never smiled. Even now they didn't speak to each other. Wes was off in a corner brooding.

"And here I thought, I was the only one with a weird family," Rosie said with a grin.

"Don't you know?  We all are just a little weird," Sunny smiled back.

At the moment though, she felt as if she and Sunny were the only real couple here. Maybe they were the real grownups.
