Another day of summer

"Oh, Gram, why is he here?" Lily asked the next morning while Cade was still asleep on the livingroom couch. "Did you tell him?"

She couldn't bare to say the word passing, but her grandmother was barely over Gramp Bill's funeral. Her grandmother hadn't wanted to make a big deal about it, but he'd been a police officer. Lily wondered if he'd have had a funeral at all if it hadn't already been planned. After all, they hadn't gathered all his stuff from the memory unit yet.

"What?" Naturally, Gram acted as if she didn't have a clue. "Cade just needed someone to talk to."

"Right." Maybe Lily had been neglectful lately with work and with Rafe. Yes, maybe Gram was the one who needed to talk too, but that meant her waiting on someone, cooking them pancakes and sausages. Even her scrambled eggs were out of this world.

"You should take a look at that eye of his," her gram squinted as she brought Lily some hot tea with a dash of cold lemonade to cool it down.

"I bet Cade's up to no good." Lily frowned as she looked at the cheesy egg sandwich her gram had made with love and a few tots on the side.

"Don't say that, I know he's a good boy," Gram begged to differ as if she knew a thing or two that Lily didn't.

"Oh, he's in love," Lily then fumed.

"What?" Gram looked as if she didn't know.

"Oh, he won't tell him. He won't dare tell Mercer about his feelings." Lily began to eat and decided she loved the sandwich a whole lot more than talking about Cade's troubles. She licked the cheese from her lips.

"Mercer?" Gram looked shocked.

"Mercer found somebody in his support group to go places with." Lily knew. She'd met Brooklyn. "She is funny and they laugh so much together. Cade never made Mercer laugh."

Her grandmother sat down to her coffee. She cradled the mug of tepid black coffee and sighed. "You all are so young." She sighed.

Lily nodded back.

"Rafe's worried about Cade too," Lily looked at Gram wondering just what was she really thinking about. Was it about Gramps? Lily sipped her hot tea. "Rafe wished Cade would find a job."

"A job?" She smiled.

"Babysitting you is out of the question." Lily looked at gram out of the corner of her eye. She looked back at Lily and they both smiled.

  7. Aaaaaa....poor Granny. Losing her husband:(....I guess it's good she has the drama of the young ones to distract her. That really is too bad Cade can't tell Mercer about his feelings.
PS Thank you so much about the heads up on The Murder in Kairoutei. TBH, I have no attention lately to long dramas so a short one sounds good! And that's so awesome you're keeping up with your crochet. I haven't knitted or sewed in months. I kinda miss it but it's just so hot here right now. Hopefully in the fall....:D

  8. Huh. So Cade loves Mercer, not Lily. I feel like I should have seen this coming . . . but didn't! You're the master of the surprise and the story web. But now I'm wondering -- did Harley fall in love with Cade only to find out that he didn't love her? I'm sure you've got big plans to let us know!

Also, nice touch having Ray Liotta as the departed Gramp Bill.

    1. Lily is with Cade's twin brother Rafe. She has never really liked Cade. Of course, she gave Rafe a hard time in the beginning too. Cade, according to Rafe who told Lily that Cade has always been in love with Mercer..who of course, doesn't have a clue about any of this.
