into the future

 "Oh, shit," did Rafe actually let that slip. His mind had been in so many places these last few weeks. Trying to keep up to speed with K.C. and his music. It wasn't like he was the front man and then he met Kimmy.

It didn't seem real. She was somewhere between a dream and freaking reality. Yes, she really loved his music. Or so she said. Really, he thought it was a one-time deal..and then she showed up at the bakery.

Too bad, Lily wasn't there to see it, but Boone was and he grinned as if he'd enjoyed the show.

Of course, there was so much Rafe didn't know about her. He didn't go to school with her, but supposedly, she knew someone who he did go to school with. Still, he didn't know who that might be.

"I'm going to be staying here, this summer," she was giggly. Honestly, he couldn't imagine why. They were pretty much landlocked and there was only the zoo and a couple of Universities around. What could she possibly be thinking?

"When can I see you again?" She asked.

Rafe was left speechless. How had this happened? OK, so she was there for the afterparty and they hung out because it was kind of a coupling situation. K.C. was off with some chick he hadn't seen since last year. It was just a very refreshing night after the concert. Lily wasn't on his mind. He wasn' worried about K.C.'s middle schooler sister peeking in on him. Yes, it was all so grownup. Not even Cade was around to pester him.

So they hadn't talked that much. Of course, they made out like animals because well he was still in the midst of his youth and there was this wildness about the darkness and the mystery of consuming it with her. They were definitely attracted to each other.

Yet here they were as daylight was at noon. Honestly, Rafe didn't know what to do.

"Go have lunch with her," Boone coaxed.

Rafe only blinked back at him. He needed more to go on than that. Seriously, he needed someone who could talk to her. He wasn't that good at talking.
