Quote yourself word for word

"I know it's getting to her," Boone felt certain he was telling all this to the wrong person. He should be talking to his brother Alfie about Maddie and what had happened to Rainy, but these days he saw Rafe briefly, and they were always catching up. Yes, he told Rafe that he and Maddie were dating.

"I dunno, I never liked the little dude, personally," Rafe shrugged, but said he felt bad what had happened to his mother.

"According to Maddie, he's not so little anymore," Boone said about Rainy.

"What did he do? Get fat?" Rafe looked at Boone blankly as he went to get his cup of coffee.

"No, he got really tall," Boone told him. "And he's seeing Kimmy."

"Kimmy?" Rafe shook his head, no. "God, don't bring her up." He said he hadn't thought about her in forever and didn't even want to.

"Well, the thing is, Harley called Maddie. It seems Kimmy is on something."

"On something?" Rafe squinted as he took a sip of the creamed coffee while he watched Boone check on the ovens as well as the bread batter that was churning.

"Yeah, like drugs," Boone looked back at him.

"Drugs?" Rafe practically yelped. "Seriously?"

"Well, she confessed Harley about it," Boone said that Maddie didn't take it lightly and she'd felt a little guilty since that she didn't try to help Harley. Now Harley was picking up the pieces of what Kimmy left behind.

"You mean, Kimmy's not even around?" Rafe blew a breath. Boone knew Rafe didn't have time for this. There were bakery goods ready for their ride across town and even into a few places in Council Bluffs.

"OK, you know, I've never been that fond of Harley," Rafe finally said. "But she's no Kimmy. And she's been with Brick forever. I hope this isn't going to mess it up for her."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, being there for Rainy," Rafe was getting ready to go. It was starting to feel like Autumn and Pumpkin spice sweetrolls were a best seller at the bakery.

Boone hadn't thought of it that way. Odd, how one little fall could be a domino effect to many.

  1. People speculate so much about others and know so little about themselves.

    1. This is a way of letting you know what is going on..since many who comment don't read the storyblog everyday..or just incase you missed it. True, each has their own history with the character or characters. And it's always good to get many sides of the story.

  9. Yes, life is full of domino effects.
Everything we do influences others in some way.

  10. He's a wise one, that Rafe, predicting the Harley-Rainy romance. And the last line, as always, is spot on -- and foreboding:

"Boone hadn't thought of it that way. Odd, how one little fall could be a domino effect to many."

The butterfly effect gets me every time too! πŸ¦‹πŸ’”πŸ¦‹πŸ’”πŸ¦‹πŸ’”πŸ¦‹πŸ’”πŸ¦‹πŸ’”
