What can you do

Syreeta wasn't sure how she was suppose to act around Fish's older sister. She loved this family, until now.

It would be another hour before her Mom got home. She really felt that Fish's Mom was her mom.

She finally met up with Fish in his room, once Kat went away. Why was she here?

"Where were you?" Syreeta wanted to know. She took the liberty of bringing him a juice box while he was pondering over math equations at his desk.

"Oh!" From the look on his face it looked as if he'd found his last Christmas present. "Uh, Derrick took me home."

"Derrick? I thought you couldn't stand him?" She scowled slightly. She knew all his friends. Zac was his best friend.

"He's kind of cool." He shrugged as if it were no big deal. He was quiet then. Finally, he said hardly above a whisper. "If I tell you something, you can't tell anyone."

Syreeta looked at him wondering just how big could this be. Was he falling for this guy? Was the first thing to come to mind, but she didn't say it.

"And?" She was ready to listen.

"He's teaching me to drive." A smile slipped. "I can drive." She'd never seen that big of a smile before. It wasn't like Fish at all.

"To drive?" She stared at him as if that was definitely insane. It was a mute subject around here.

"I'm really OK, behind the wheel. I really am. He let me drive his car." Fish said this with a whole new kind of confidence.

"Well, that's great." But there was still the Kat problem. "What's going on with your sister?"

"I have no idea." Fish sighed. He picked up his cell. "I have a good mind to call Wild."

"You really should." Syreeta liked that idea.

"I want to, but I dunno. It could be a bigger mess then." He shrugged a little indifferent.

Syreeta winced. If this kept up, Syreeta was thinking she should call her best friend Luna and stay with her.
