Come, see me

Derrick hated the idea of summer school, but it looked like the only way he might ever graduate. Naturally, Mitch didn't have to worry about that.

"I'm an idiot." He wasn't sure why Mitch wanted to hang out with him. Wasn't like they'd made a move on each other. "Not good for nothing."

"You have to start thinking positive." Mitch told him. Of course, his sister wasn't too happy to see the both of them at Mitch's.

"What is her problem?" Derrick asked as she stomped of to her room while the two of them set on the couch looking for something to watch on TV.

"Don't worry. She hates everyone." Mitch's smile shown as if Derrick had nothing to worry about. "We had meat, last time you were here."

"Meat?" Derrick looked at him with a wince.

"She's vegan and very religious about it." He continued to channel surf. "I think she might be jealous." He shrugged.

"Jealous?" Derrick squinted harder.

"Maybe its not that. But, you know, she likes being alone. She wants me to be alone." Mitch looked at Derrick.

"Its not like you're married to your sister?" Derrick scowled.

"Sometimes, I might as well be." He found a nature show. They both watched polar bears on a shrinking ice island.

Derrick looked at Mitch.

"You never had.." He didn't know how to exactly finish the sentence.

"A boyfriend?" Mitch's grin was open. "Afraid not."

Derrick bit his upper lip. He was just going to have to change that. Right now. But he didn't rush in with a kiss. Instead, he asked Mitch if he wanted to go out on a date. Derrick couldn't remember the last time he'd actually gone out on a real date, and actually paid for it.
