Halie did her best to listen on the first night when Carson came to the house. Of course, she didn't ask what was going on, but Brittany was staying with the baby. She heard a quiet argument the first night.
Evidently, Carson thought he could find a way to sleep with Brittany and the baby, but he ended up on the couch. Although, he came back the next night and ate supper. Even did the dishes, afterwards. He and Brittany were civil. He even held Theo, for awhile.
Again, there was a lot whisper-shouting. Halie only smiled. She'd never seen Gage's brother this way. He was always so indifferent. Especially with his mom, and he pretty much a grump when he was with Charlie. But now, he talked to the baby and held him how Brittany instructed.
Of course, he didn't get what he wanted that night either. He ended up on the cold couch in the livingroom. But at least the two were smiling at each other.
"What do you think happened to him?" She asked Gage the next morning when they were getting out cereal and milk and making toast.
"Got me." Gage shrugged. "I don't think he likes being so alone. And I guess he likes Theo, as much as he likes Brittany." Gage smiled. "I definitely, didn't see that coming."
"So do you think he'll be here tonight?" Halie was beginning to wonder if they might move in.
"Most definitely." He looked at Halie. "I think Brittany mentioned something about making chicken strips. He loves her fried chicken."
Halie nodded. Maybe Brittany did have Carson wrapped around her little finger.
Looks can be deceiving.
