Ste couldn't exactly say what was happening. Possibly a showdown. Nobody knew about Ivy and her new boy. Evidently, he was staying with her.
This much Bree got out of her when Ivy showed up with Brian at the downtown coffee shop. Ste, couldn't help but listen from the counter where he was seeing to last minute quiches and soup for the lunch crowd.
Besides, everyone wanted to get to know Torry, who Ste thought was Will at first. He could tell it even made Ivy feel uneasy. And then, Will showed up.
He was far to calm. Ste could imagine Will slugging Brian, but he didn't. Instead, he ordered a coffee and drank it black, sitting in the corner like an obedient dog. He said nothing to Ivy. Actually, nothing to anyone.
Naturally, Bree was full of stories about old times. Some of the stories left Ste's girlfriend Gabby with a sour face, but she kept trying to smile as if she and Bree were still old friends. Ste knew that wasn't true.
But it was hard for Ste to tell if Gabby still had feelings for Will. He didn't think so, but what if he were wrong? He knew she'd loved him once and she probably still did. It was a fact he had to live with.
As he watched Will, Ste felt sure he could learn a lot from Will's stillness. They might become friends yet. He was certain Will needed a friend now more than ever.
"Why didn't you knock this guy out?" Ste wanted to know after the rest left.
"What good would that have done?" Will told him Brian wasn't the problem. It was Ivy. "It's just something she has to figure out." Will did look sad. "I don't want to let her go, but it might be the only way to get her back."
Ste nodded as if he understood. He made Will a sourdough tuna sandwich.
"You can't live on coffee alone, in times like these." Ste didn't know what else to do for him. Of course, Will wrapped up the sandwich. Ste doubted he ate it.
